My CD Player

I have really been using my cd player in my car instead of my cell phone (after receiving my cell phone bill this month). I have decided to talk to my husband, mom, and friends when I get home. So I thought about my music choices in my CD player on my long commute to work. I thought about the artists and the words of their lyrics. I thought about their journey in life and how it is transformed into their works.

Here's what is in my cd player:
1. Micheal Jackson (Thriller)-- Loved him since I was a little girl. This cd takes me back to a great place. I can remember watching him dance and thinking he is truly an awesome performer.
2. Ne-Yo (Because of you) -- like his music because he reminds me a little bit of Micheal Jackson. He has also been a songwriter for many years before becoming a singer, which I thought was interesting. He worked behind the scenes for a long time. I'm sure he learn the in and outs of the music industry along the way.
3. Chrisette Michele (I am)-- My husband gave me this cd and I love it. Her style is like nothing that I have ever heard. It is a mix of soul and blues. I can envision myself the places that she sings about. It's truly a great ride. She says she takes her life experiences and gives them to everyone who would listen. So I'm listening!!!!
4. Mary J. Blige (Growing Pains)-- my mom gave it to me. My favorite songs on this cd are "Work That" and "Just Fine". Work That---- "work what you got" So much in life we are not satisfied with what we have and we criticize why we are not like-- MISS THING. WHO CARES? I have decided that I'm working what I got. And in the end, I will be "JUST FINE"
5. Waiting on my Circuit Party music DVD--it will be in the 5th cd changer. I probably will write the synopsis without the music selection. But I'm going to give it until Saturday to come. If not, I will write it without the music selection on Saturday.

Each one of these artists has had a different musical journey and they use their music to express their journey. Each one of these artist have went down a different road and experience different things throughout their lives. I think that is what makes us who we are. I hope that my experiences are transformed into my works. I know my songs will be different than theirs. My moves will be different than theirs. My path will be different than theirs. But in the end we will work what we got.

2 Winners---STEP PARTY TRIVIA

CHERITA GADSON AND CORETTA GRIFFIN

THESE TWO LADIES HAVE WON THE STEP PARTY TRIVIA GAME. THEY BOTH GUESS THAT INTERVAL PARTY TOOK THE LONGEST TO FILM (6 HOURS).

We filmed Vertical Step Party on a Friday afternoon. We started at about 6:00 pm and we where finish by 8:00. The girls and I did really well on filming this video. Well, we got started first on Interval Party around 8:30 am and the first half went great and then we got to Combo 3/4 and we kept messing up ----BAD. It took us 6 hours to film -- we were finally finish by 3:00 pm. And then we started on Pump Party which was a breeze. We were out of the studio by 5:00.

My next shoot of Party3 series-- I will be filming one video per day. Interval 2 on Friday (I'm doing this one first) Step Party 2-- Saturday and Circuit Party --- Sunday.

Fitness Fusion--- Yogapaddle

Fitness Journey--Oct. 29-Nov. 4----- YOGAPADDLE

What is it? A two hour class where you kayak down the river to a remote site and then you practice yoga and after yoga you kayak back to the starting point. Do you see the fusion? Who would put the two together. An instructor that has the love for kayaking and yoga.
My Yogapaddle story--- OK, I arrive at the site a few minutes before the class. Well, I didn't see anyone at the dock. So I'm on my way back to my car and a man says, "Are you here for the class? They just left. I can show you where to go to catch up with them. You can go down the river about a mile or so and go right and then left. "So he gets me my life jacket and kayak. Then he ask me, "Have you done this before?" NO!! I have never done this before. And then he says, "It can flip, so you have a balance and be steady." I can swim pretty good in a pool, but I don't know about a river. I'm scared to death. Well, I get started and what is suppose to be a mile turns into MILES........It takes me forever to get down the river. I start to feel my forearms and biceps and I think, "I still have to do yoga and travel back." I get stuck, I go the wrong way, I'm LOST. I never find the remote site where they are doing yoga, but I finally find my way back to the dock after an hour. But on the way back, I get the hang of it. I sort of look like I know what I'm doing. I'm moving faster.

Lesson Learned: If you think you can do it, YOU CAN!!

LET'S ROCK!!

Fitness Journey Oct. 23-28 Indoor Rock Climbing
What is it? Indoor Rock Climbing-- A large wall where you try to climb to the top without falling. You have to strategically place your hands and feet and maintain balance to continue to the top. This workout was strictly muscular conditioning. Rock climbing works every muscle in your body from your hands to your toes. You can see that my son and I really enjoyed indoor rock climbing. We will definitely be doing this again because we want to ROCK!!
Next week I have an unusual fitness journey planned, so check back and see how fusion in the fitness world is possible. Also, have a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

HIT THE TRAILS

October 15-22 Fitness Journey took us to Skidaway Island in Savannah on the Big Ferry Trail. The Big Ferry Trail is 3 miles long which takes you through the marshes, live oaks, cabbage-palmettos and longleaf pines. We saw squirrels, raccoons, and birds on our hike. It was great to get outside because the weather here in Savannah has been great. This was a good workout because we had to powerwalk and wave our hands to keep the mosquitos away. We definitely hit the trails and the mosquitos on this journey.

Stay tuned for my next journey............Remember fitness is everywhere.

It's All in the Hips

My picture to the left has a glare from the picture in the backdrop. So I decided to get my daugher Kelsea to take another picture in my front yard with my hips moving and sexy arms, but I got the picture at top. So maybe on my next journey, I will have some better shots.

October 7-14-- Class: Latin Dance
What is it? A 60 minute latin dance class where it is all about the hips and sexy arm movements. We danced to different latin tunes and did moves like the mambo, cha-cha, merengue, and my favorite is the Susie Q.
How I felt? I feel like dancing!! My heartrate stayed in the 140's during the workout. Our instructor, Carmen, had us hold our arms horizontally while we did some of our fancy footwork and man my arms felt heavy, so I got some toning in with this workout.
New Series update: I have all of the choreography!!! Just have to practice, test, fine tune, and continue on my fitness journey. So stay tuned.........

Whipped!

October 1-5 Fitness Journey: Class-- Punk Rope

What is it? A 55 minute fitness class that combines rope jumping with creative conditioning drills. In the class we did 15 intervals and 6 of them were jumping rope.

How I felt? My feeling after the class--- I was whipped! I realized that jumping rope is plyometrics at your best. My heartrate stayed in the 160-170's which is 90% of my max.

I'm on my way to pulling off Step Party 2!! Also, I have the name for my new strength workout-- Circuit Party-- this workout will hit every muscle group in the body with cardio moves and weights. Stay tuned for my next fitness journey...........

Shake it BABY!!

Put your arms up and shake it BABY!

September 23-30 Fitness Journey: Class-- Zumba

What is it? A floor choreographed aerobic/fitness interval training class with a combination of fast and slow rhythms using Latin and international music.

How I felt? My feelings after the class-- Shake it BABY. I was able to double up on my fitness routine that day. I was able to work on my new series routines and do Zumba to burn some extra calories and increase cardiovascular level. My heartrate stayed in 140-150's which 75-80% of my maximum heart rate during the class. I think this class is a good workout when you want to double up, let it go, and/or shake it baby.

Happy Scale and New Series

I'm excited to be able to share my "behind the scene news" on this blogger thing. It's really great to write about your health/fitness and your personal journey. It's a healthy cleansing or something. My first story is Happy Scale. One of my patient's came in last week and told the nurses that she was so excited about getting on the scale. She wanted to see how much weight she had lost since she had started exercising with my Step Party DVD's. She had lost 15 pounds!!! And she was HAPPY to get on the scale. If I can make someone happy to get on the scale-- my work here is done. No, not really and that takes you to my second story-- new series--Interval Party 2, Step Party 2, and ????? (not quite sure yet-- something new/different with weight training). I have been working on new choreography for Step Party 2 and Interval Party 2. Right now, Interval Party has 6 combos and 4 intervals with a kickbox influence (I need 2 more intervals). Step Party 2 has 7 combos with power parties and it is hard. I can barely get through it twice-- I'm really going to have to train hard to pull this one off. So I'm starting this week on my training/fitness journey. I'm going to try some new classes/fitness activities and blog about it later in the week. So feel free to join in and come along on my fitness journey.

Personal Struggles

I have chosen to give a percentage of my earnings to special need children and the Tourette's Syndrome Association because of the struggles with my son, Kamden. After shooting Step Party in 2005, we began to see a changes in Kamden's behavior. He was very impulsive, inattentive, hyperactive, and he also had tics. He would shake his head from side to side, hum, and his eyes would roll upward. Kamden has been to numerous physicians and on several medications with no improvement. He was very unsuccessful in school because of his problems. How could this be happening to my precious child? What was I to do? I began to homeschool him and I video recorded his symptoms. And then we went to Augusta to another specialist and he gave us the right diagnosis and medications. Kamden has Tourette's and ADHD. I am happy to report that he is in a regular 1st grade class and doing great. But I want to help with public awareness and research of Tourette's, so another mother and child won't have to go through what we went through.

Step Party's Mission

Step Party began it's mission in 2005. My vision for Step Party was to create a company that would help people live a healthier lifestyles. I want to create products that are easy to use and fun. I create my first video called Step Party with Functional Training in 2005-- which is a step workout with fun choreography for the beginner exerciser or the advance exerciser. In 2007, I created three more workouts to appeal to a larger audience. I personally love step aerobics, but not everyone loves it as much as I do. So I created three new workouts called Vertical Step Party, Interval Party, and Pump Party for all fitness levels. I am committed to promoting health and wellness through exercise and I'm using my company to do this. My ultimate goal is to change someone's life through exercise and/or through my personal struggles.

Plans for Step Party 2008

1.Develop and create health/fitness outreach programs in my community
2.Create 2 or 3 more videos/products with "new" concepts of exercise
3.Donate percentage of Step Party's earnings to Tourette's syndrome Association and special needs children.
